Lipidomics

Lipidomics is categorized as a subgroup of metabolomics, and has been defined as “the system-level analysis and characterization of lipids and their interacting moieties”. For accurate and comprehensive lipid characterization using mass spectrometry several approached might be taken. However, all of them rely on accurate sample preparation, analysis and evaluation. We use a targeted approach, which means that in order to achieve accurate and sensitive lipid quantification we use several mass spectrometric methods, which are all optimized for the specific lipids of interest. We have also developed robot-assisted lipid extraction methods in order to increase throughput and reduce the heavy work load often associated with manual sample preparation. As of today, our analytical platform are capable of accurately quantifying more than 300 molecular lipids from all major lipids classes.
